BOTOX Overview & Treatment Options
BOTOX Cosmetic is an injectable treatment made from botulinum toxin type A, a substance that temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for causing lines and wrinkles to form. When BOTOX is injected into the face, it alleviates lines and wrinkles as well as tightening sag along the jawline. Here are some of the uses of BOTOX Cosmetic.
Frown Lines/11s
If you’re bothered by those frown lines between your eyebrows (also known as the 11s), BOTOX Cosmetic can help. When injected into the muscles, these lines temporarily relax and smooth the area, providing you with a more youthful appearance and less “perma-scowl.”
Forehead Lines
Those horizontal lines across your forehead, caused by repeated looks of surprise, are another early sign of facial aging. As we age, these lines become deeper and more pronounced. When treated, BOTOX Cosmetic can smooth and soften these lines and even slow their progression over time.
Crow’s Feet
Crow’s feet form at the edges of your eyes from years of laughing, smiling, and squinting. Like other areas of your face, repeated use of facial muscles causes these lines to develop. BOTOX Cosmetic can soften crow’s feet and reduce the effect of time by giving you a natural, youthful appearance that you want around your eyes. Preserve your look with repeated treatments.
BOTOX Brow Lift
One of the most popular treatments among our clientele, the BOTOX brow lift is a cosmetic procedure that lifts your eyebrows by relaxing the muscles of the brow and forehead. This helps prevent the need for a surgical brow lift or eye lift, putting off invasive surgical procedures.
What to Expect From Your BOTOX Treatment
Every new patient can expect to see one of our Aesthetic providers for a comprehensive consultation followed by a 30-45 minute treatment. Routine follow-up visits are also recommended to evaluate progress and maintain results.
Your Consultation
During your consultation, you will meet with a provider that will listen to your concerns and examine the areas you wish to address. As BOTOX is an injectable prescription treatment, you must provide us with your full medical history during this visit. We require a full list of your prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, supplements, family history, and personal health history. If we determine that BOTOX is right for you, we will provide you with an overview of your treatment plan as well as an estimate.
How does Botox work?
As we age, the tissues of our face will begin to lose elasticity and volume. This lax skin can sag, allowing fine lines and deep creases to form. Areas with repetitive movements, such as those around the eyes and mouth, are especially prone to wrinkles. Smoking, sun damage, and genetics further contribute to these early signs of aging. Frown Lines, Crow’s Feet, and deep creases along the forehead can make you appear unhappy, angry, and worse of all, years older.
The Consultation
Before the Botox procedure, you will have a consultation with one of our experienced injectors. This one-on-one time is vital for safe, satisfying aesthetic results. During this appointment, we will examine your skin, review your medical history, and discuss any current medications. We will explain the Botox procedure, and what to expect from the treatment. If the assessment determines that Botox is right for your needs, a unique treatment plan will be created and you can begin your Botox regime immediately after the consultation. A Botox Cosmetic session will take less than half an hour to complete, from start to finish. During the brief exam, the targeted areas will be determined. The procedure is generally pain-free, patients normally report feeling a slight pinch and pressure. As patient comfort level is extremely important to us, a topical numbing cream can be applied. The injector will then meticulously apply your Botox using a very fine needle, many patients compare the sensation to that of a pinprick. The actual injections will take only a few minutes to complete.
Results from Botox
There is no downtime needed after Botox Cosmetic injections. You can return to normal activities the same afternoon. Initially, minor redness or bumps may occur at the injection site, but this should resolve in a few hours. Slight bruising may also occur.
While you may notice some benefits from a Botox Cosmetic treatment after just a few days, the full effects will take two to three weeks to be appreciated. These results from Botox will last for 8-12 weeks. After this time, a repeat procedure will be necessary to maintain the results.
Potential Complications from Botox
Botox Cosmetic is considered extremely safe and consistently effective. Side effects can include redness, mild swelling, and minor bruising. When performed by an experienced professional, there is a very little serious risk with the injectable. By always choosing the most reputable and skilled Botox Cosmetic provider, you will greatly decrease the chance for any problems to occur.
How does Dysport work?
Dynamic wrinkles are the result of repetitive muscle movements from facial expressions. These fine lines and deep creases may form between the eyebrows (Frown Lines), at the corners of the eyes (Crow’s Feet), and along the forehead. While there is nothing that can be done to reverse these early signs of aging we have a solution.
Dysport is a minimally invasive treatment, used to temporarily eliminate dynamic wrinkles. Also known as Botulinum Toxin Type A, or obobotulinumtoxin, Dysport is injected with a small needle, blocking nerve impulses to the targeted muscle. As the area is unable to contract, the associated facial lines will ease and smooth out. The muscles surrounding the treatment area will continue to function as normal, so facial expressions are not affected. Dysport can efficiently improve the appearance of wrinkles on the upper face.
The Ideal Dysport Candidate
Anyone unhappy with lines and wrinkles along the forehead or around the eyes, due to the aging process, can benefit from Dysport. Patients should be in overall good health, as well as understand the benefits and limitations of Dysport. Candidates with an allergy to Botox should not continue with Dysport injections.
The Dysport Consultation
You will have a one-on-one consultation before beginning any aesthetic treatment. This is a time for a brief examination of the skin, a review of current medications, and a discussion of aesthetic goals. The Dysport treatment process will be explained in detail, and if the procedure can meet the desired goals, a personalized treatment plan will be created.
As soon as the initial consultation is complete, patients are ready to begin their Dysport injections. The practitioner will first determine the targeted treatment areas. She will then apply the Dysport using a very small needle. While Dysport injections are not considered painful, patients do report feeling a slight pinch during each injection. To improve the comfort level, patients may request a topical or local anesthetic to be used before treatment.
Results from Dysport
The benefits of Dysport will take several days to appear. Full wrinkle-reducing results can be seen in 10 to 14 days. The tissue will continue to look smooth and relaxed for up to three months. When the results begin to fade, a repeat Dysport treatment will be needed to maintain a youthful appearance.
Potential Complications from Dysport
Dysport is considered a safe and effective treatment for the temporary improvement of dynamic wrinkles. Side effects from Dysport include redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. While more serious complications are extremely rare, they can include an allergic reaction, drooping eyelids, and nerve damage. The best way for patients to avoid a negative reaction after receiving Dysport is to trust an experienced aesthetic provider.
